Jeff Kemp spent eleven years in the NFL, where he was a successful back-up and starting quarterback for the Rams, Forty-Niners, Seahawks and Eagles. In 1992, he founded Stronger Families, which he led for 18 years before joining the national family strengthening organization FamilyLife as Vice President and Homebuilder Catalyst. Jeff has spoken to businesses and organizations for over 20 years, with over 1000 presentations. He lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with his wife, Stacy. They have four sons and two daughters-in-law.

“We are more aware of negative things that trigger our partner and more open to seeing from each other’s point of view. We learned how to listen to each other, relate to how the other is feeling, and understand what they are trying to communicate.”

Inside the Lesson

In this episode, Jeff Kemp—former NFL quarterback, founder of Stronger Families, and author of Facing the Blitz—divulges his secrets to a happier, healthier, stronger family. He describes what he calls “blitzes”—those moments in life when everything seems to fall apart—and gives practical advice on how to safeguard your family and marriage against unintended consequences. Jeff’s keys to surviving a blitz are simple: You must (a) have a long-term view, (b) be willing to change, and (c) focus on others more. Jeff Kemp desires to see every parent work hard today to leave a legacy of love and grace that extends for generations. It starts, he says, in your marriage. When you stop viewing your marriage with a “What’s in it for me?” mentality and seek first to meet your spouse’s needs, this behavior will trickle down into every area of your life. “Blitzes” can be particularly heavy and long-lasting for military couples, due to the many stressors of military life, but his advice for weathering the storm is both poignant and practical.
